The First Five Years

August 23rd 2036 A.D. - March 25th, 2041 A.D.

After the earthquakes had stopped and when the blinding light with no source began to fade away. Henry Duncan, the head of operations that created The Fusegen Device, opened the door of the South Dakota Research Facility.

In the year 2036, after hours of a constant earthquake and a blinding light. He expected to find a world destroyed by his failed attempt to clear the planet of nuclear fallout. Instead he found that his plan worked, but not as he expected. After he had activated the Fusegen Device, with the plan of using the coming fallout cloud's exposure to the nuclear reactors in the area and when they collided - they would cause a chain reaction of nuclear events. The Fusegen Device would then create a black hole to attach and absorb all nuclear fallout. Destroying the world, but saving it from a nuclear winter. From what he saw now, there was no nuclear meltdown, the reactors themselves had collapsed due to the chaos, but the radiation had vanished and the skies which were dark and filled with fallout clouds were gone, replaced by the clearest sky seen in a hundred years. He recalled that even during the day, the atmosphere was so clear he could see the stars. He also noticed the change in landscape. The area the research facility was built around was known for its rolling hills, but that had changed. In the distance, he saw a vast mountain range that appeared to have just risen out of the ground. He also noted a handful of ancient looking buildings that had no earthly origins. He gathered what remained of his staff, jumped in vehicles and drove off looking for the answers to what happened. He came across several humans that were outside during the earthquakes. They claim to have seen parts of the land vanish and then another land rise up in its place. Where a valley was, a mountain grew. Where a town once laid, a vast and ancient forest that looked like something out of a fantasy story has grown and looked like it had been there for a thousand years. They could signal no government agencies on the radio. They found what remained of the human population had vanished in some places. And when they chose to drive East to Chicago, they found the first great new discovery.

They had heard its roar miles before they saw it. Then on the peak of one of the highest mountains. A massive winged creature appeared. It flew towards them, circling overhead, appearing to study them. That is when what could best be described as a dragon dropped in front of the caravan of scientists just as they were about to reach a small town. Many ran in fear, but knowing they could not escape this beast, Henry Duncan chose to confront it. The dragon didn't fight, instead it opened its mouth and began to speak. It was a foreign tongue, but it was clear he was speaking words. The beast looked frustrated and thinking the humans were primitive and could not speak his language - it flew off. Confused and now more frightened of the world, the caravan of scientists continued on their journey to Chicago. The group would encounter more strange sights: almost alien landscapes, strange creatures that could not speak their language and only a handful of Earth's remnants that hadn't vanished or were destroyed by the hours of earthquakes, while other pockets remained untouched. To the understanding of these scientists. they theorized the following. The Earth, having been exposed to a massive discharge of energy had ripped a hole in the space/time continuum. Within this space/time continuum, alternate realities of the Earth existed and the Earth had fused with one of these alternate worlds. This world was filled with beings that mankind had previously only known in fantasy and fiction. It was both a curse and a blessing. The fusion had cleared away pretty much all of the radiation left behind by the nuclear fallout. However, at the same time; a world forged by technology was fused with one blessed with magic and a whole new age of discovery was upon the occupants of this strange new world. They also theorized that the only way this was possible. Was that at the exact same time in this magical endowed world, a massive release of energy was also released at the same place on Earth, at the same moment in the time of the universe. When they reached Chicago they found that their guesses were accurate. They witnessed with their own eyes the fusing of two worlds. What started in South Dakota spread in all directions with the fallout. It moved like an oil spill lit on fire. First the energy would spread out ahead and the energy from the device followed behind it, causing an event like a black hole, but not bound by dimensions. It spread over mountains, rivers, through buildings and even people. It then became a power struggle as this fantasy world would fight to come through, Sometimes it did, other times it failed. It was like a tornado destroying your neighbors house and leaving yours completely untouched. Random and chaotic. This wave of fusion traveled across the oceans and it came back around the same time Duncan reached Chicago, They watched as massive plateaus began to rise up from portals in the ground, each with a great an ancient cathedral that looked like nothing that could exist on earth. They watched as entire city blocks vanished, replaced with an ancient ruin. Even people vanished and new beings fell into their place. They also found the first signs of the coming war. As the humans were fighting against these new creatures and beings that before had only been known in myths, fairy tales and fantasy stories.

Meanwhile, in the deserts of what was on the American Southwest, Lady Yunfahl awoke to find herself alone in a desert. The Lost One's army was gone, The Academy and the rest of the Order had vanished, as did the amulet in her hand. As she gazed around the desert, the world seemed both alien and yet.. familiar. All she had were the clothes on her back and a stack of books. What little remained of the collection of journey books she had fought to protect. Lost, confused and unable to carry a few hundred books around the desert. She found a cave, made a map and swore that she'd come back for the books after she found out where she was. She traveled the world with her own journey book. She assumed that since she had first hand knowledge of what had happened; her recorded history would be vastly important to this world. As were the books of the first generation of Descendkin. And with that, Lady Yunfahl became a nomad. For the next century, she would remain out of the world's history books.

September - December 2036 A.D.

The confusion died down after a week. But as these new races from Ehumera who called themselves 'Rhungarians', began to regroup, their former kingdoms and nations re-established, they started to take over and claim territories that they saw as their own. The humans thought these new beings were the invaders and the Rhungarans thought the same of humans. And as nearly all of humanity had just been through the largest war the world had ever known and the a world ending nuclear disaster, followed by a massive earthquake - they were not able to defend or stop the advance of these new beings who wielded arcane magics as their weapons. What was left of the NAC, The North American Coalition (United States, Canada, Great Britain, Western Europe) gathered what survivors they could and left their homes, sailed across the Atlantic and came to North America. They were fleeing a fog that was spreading from Russia. Anything that was consumed by the fog was lost. Squads of soldiers were sent in to investigate, but radio communication were instantly lost. People swear they saw massive creatures walking within the fog. The NAC sent out a radio transmission to their enemies The GAA and the EUG as well as any who wished to join them. They were setting up the last bastion of humanity in North America. All would be welcome. It was seen as a last ditch effort to save humanity. And in December, Humanity had set up a handful of colonies around North America. The largest around New York City, Chicago and San Francisco. And what was left of the United States military began to take stock of how the rest of the world was dealing with this collision of worlds. 2041 What remained of the city of San Francisco became one of the largest human colonies on Earth. And it was on the border of this colony that the first real conflict with the new races occurred. They appeared to resemble creatures of fantasy, beings known as Elves. What little human resistance there was, had been quickly put down as these beings had gifts beyond all human knowledge. The humans were escorted back into their colony and the Elves quarantined the city. They took prisoners with them as well and within a month, a unarmed Naruen Leader was sent into San Francisco, one of these creatures could suddenly speak English; having learned it from a prisoner. Many thought this would be a sign of peace, but really they just wanted a way to order the humans around. The Naruen, is what they called themselves and for the next year, the humans of the San Francisco Colony would become their slaves. The humans were forced to build the Elves technological weapons which would be used against their enemy. Orc-like beings known as the Evargeist. While under control of the Elves, there were several times that massive groups of humans simply vanished, never to be seen again. It was rumored that they were sold to underground tribes of the Nadiar (Dark Elves), but the Elven Leaders still deny the accusation. Of all the humans, one in particular showed great promise. The engineer from the SDRF known as Henry Duncan. Who had traveled out of Chicago by plane to meet with a collection of scientists from around the world to discuss what exactly had happened in South Dakota. But Duncan was taken captive and was taken aside by the Naruen and they began to teach him magic, so that he could combine it with the human's technology. Of course Duncan was eager to learn all he could about magic, which he saw as a new element. It was in this year that many of the first Magitek Devices were created.

By using a simple teleport spell and radio frequencies, Duncan created The Arcanduit Gates. Portals that allowed people to travel great distances just by simply tuning into the right frequency. The Naruen (Elves) set many up around the world, with the idea of using them to sneak massive amounts of troops behind enemy lines. When the Naruen made their move to attack the Evargeist (Orcs). Duncan made his. He quickly organized a rebellion and armed his fighters with crude weapons, but effective none the less. He was able to take back control of the San Francisco Colony (SFC), and its defense system of auto-turrets (which was built during World War III). The Naruen were overpowered and were forced to surrender, having sent most of their troops through a Portal to finish off the Orc Race once and for all. Realizing they underestimated the human race, a truce was quickly made, the humans were given control of the land around the San Francisco, the Greater San Fran Area, and part of the Emnest Desert (the massive land that was once the great American Southwest, The Pacific to the Sierra Nevada Mountains). Resources were gathered and Duncan began to build the foundation for a city that would become NeoCity. Henry Duncan oversaw its design and construction himself, after which he was elected its first President. President Duncan made another deal with the Naruen, the humans would continue to make them weapons, if they would teach the humans magic. Over the years, the city grew, a marvel of engineering and even incorporated some arcane magic in its construction.

Duncan, The President of NeoCity and the Leader of the Naruen sat down with a handful of their wisest and discussed what happened. The Naruen explained everything about their world and the Humans did the same. It was quickly realized that Duncan's theory was correct. When he activated the Fusegen Device, at the same time, someone on the fantasy world of Ehumera, on the continent of Rhungara must have released a lot of energy, which they call Mana. This release of energy caused both worlds to be connected on the space/time frequencies. And instead of destroying both worlds. Something attempted to save the worlds, by fusing the two of them together. The Naruen explained about how it had happened before and how their gods, The Ehlderkin and the Descendkin had came from another world as well. They explained how the Arcane Magics were a force that actually seeped into their Earth from the unknown world before Ehumera. The humans started to ponder their own existence and wonder if this has happened before on Earth: with the dinosaurs, the great deluge and maybe even the creation of life. The world of technology had just fused with a realm of magic and created a world like no other.
