What is NeoCitySAGA?

........" NeoCitySAGA is a Neo-Noir, Post-Apocalyptic, Sci-fi/Fantasy Role Playing Game. It is played in real time via an IRC Chat Client, and has a lot of the same rules that a pen & paper tabletop game (such as Dungeons & Dragons) might have, but it is more open and vastly more interactive. The game is open 24/7 to freeform roleplay, and players will be regularly invited by the game staff to take part in quests and events that may alter the course of the city and the entire future of the world. The gaming system is quite simple, and favors good roleplaying over tedious rules and stat keeping. Instead of a complicated combat system, we use a simple d20 system that focuses on acquiring bonuses, items, skills, and experience that allows characters access to all those things. The player that spends the most time grinding may no longer be the strongest; now, the clever stand a chance. That's not to say that the grinder won't be powerful, but they still have to look out for the little guy who somehow acquired a skill called 'Five Finger Death Punch'. The game's setting revolves around Earth, set centuries into the future. A science experiment has gone horribly wrong, and opened an inter-dimensional portal that threatened to destroy the world. Instead, the results were far stranger than anyone could have imagined. At that moment, an alternate version of Earth elsewhere in existence, was also threatening to annihilate itself. Through some mixture of dumb luck and scientific mystery, the realities of these separate Earths fused into one. This new world is filled with magic and creatures once imagined as far-fetched fantasy, beings and powers that graced the pages of bestselling novels and blockbuster films. Now, these things are a part of day-to-day life, with dragons, elves, and magic weaving their way through a vast city equipped with the most modern technology. The citizens of NeoCity must now find a balance between magic and technology before the struggle for power and advancement tears apart the entire city. For the most part, this game will take place within the walled city of NeoCity a dystopian metropolis that was built atop the ruins of San Francisco. One moment, you could be walking down the street. The next, you may teleport away to an ancient dungeon in search of a lost treasure, then fight off a dozen machines programmed to kill - all over the course of a day. You can play as anything from a wise old wizard on a quest to be the greatest spell-caster any world has ever known. Or, you can play as a corrupt detective, solving crimes by day, and creating them by night. Take part in an engaging faction system that allows you to start a small street gang, and rise up to become one of the Syndicates that rule the Districts of the city. As time marches on and new events reshape the city, new areas will open up outside the walls of SANCTUM, but for now--like every other citizen--you are stuck. A prisoner, confined within the walls of the largest and strangest city the world will ever know. Is this an original game? Not really. NeoCitySAGA is blender of several different ideas. From Shadowrun to another game that use to exist in the 90's. ".. All right, sounds cool. How do I play? Below, you will find directions how to reach this server, as well as the channel names that are used to play this game. Think of it like playing any video game, except it's all done through writing and your character isn't limited to what a video game can allow.. You can go anywhere and do almost anything. Take advantage of that freedom. If you have any questions, feel free to ask a GM or a player. Or simply watch and learn.

Easiest Way To Play: The OOC Channel - This takes you to the OOC (Out Of Character) channel where one can converse with other players.

The RPG Channel - This takes you to the IC (In Character) channel where the actual roleplay and gaming takes place. or Step One - Find an IRC program such as mIRC or pIRCh and download it. Step Two - Type /server irc.sorcery.org and hit enter. Step Three - Come up with a nickname for yourself, and select it by typing /nick <your name here> Step Four - Type /join #NeoCitySAGA Channels: #NeoCitySAGA (Main Channel) #TheQueue (OOC Channel. ) #The_Hood (Main Questing Channel) #The_Dead_Zone (Secondary Questing Channel) #The_Chamber(Dueling Channel) How do I get started ? You can begin playing freeform roleplay right away, though we do recommend skimming through the various races, classes, and the locations available to you before beginning. You may find some inspiration in those pages, and a brief familiarity with the setting opens up your eyes to the variety of possibilities present in the city of Sanctum. Before officially registering a character, do read through the pages relating to the Game System, linked in the sidebar to your left. This will give you information about stats, leveling, experience, and all of the other aspects of the game's questing system. Game System Once you have read through the above, simple head over to the forum to fill out a character form. However, you might want to read up on the Races and Classes available to you. You may also want to skim the information on the history, world, and city that you'll be residing in, and use that information to guide you as you craft your character's background. If you already have a character idea in mind, certainly feel free to ask other players or staff for input about how to best create that character within this setting.
